Performance Objectives - Management by Objectives (MBO) is a process that engages employees at all levels in the objective setting process for the organization. First popularized by Peter Drucker in his book 'The Practice of Management', Management by Objectives enables an organization to chart a course with all hands pulling in the same direction. "The best way to predict the future is to create it." - Peter Drucker Performance Perspectives - A way of grouping performance objectives popularized by the Balanced Scorecard - a performance framework with principles similar to Management by Objectives which plots 'strategic objectives' on a 'strategy map'. Performance objectives are typically distributed across a set of 4 performance 'perspectives'. Alternative systems have since suggested new headings for these perspectives, and using additional perspectives. Performance Measurement - Managing for results. Business Performance Measurement (BPM) systems have grown in use and popularity over the past twenty years. Firms adopt BPM systems for a variety of reasons, but chiefly to improve control over the firm in ways that traditional accounting systems have not allowed. Performance Improvement - In 1986, Masaaki Imai established the Kaizen Institute, to help Western companies introduce kaizen concepts, systems and tools. That same year, he published his book on Japanese management, Kaizen: The Key to Japan's Competitive Success. This best-selling book has since been translated into 14 languages.
Performance Excellence - The Baldrige Award is given by the President of the United States to businesses—manufacturing and service, small and large—and to education, health care and nonprofit organizations that apply and are judged to be outstanding in seven areas: leadership; strategic planning; customer and market focus; measurement, analysis, and knowledge management; human resource focus; process management; and results.
